SPAM/PHISHING

 

Hello Bloggers first of all I am going to talk to you about SPAM!

What is SPAM?

Spam is any kind of unwanted online communication flooding the internet with many copies of the same message.

How many types of spam are there?

There are 7 types of spam which are commonly found:

1.       Email Spam

2.       Comment Spam

3.       Instant messenger

4.       Junk fax

5.       Unsolicited text messages

6.       Social networking spam

 

How do I stop spam?

You can stop spam by:

1.       looking for warning signs

2.       don’t post your email address on public forums or websites

3.       Report spam

4.       Use spam blocking tools

 

How can spam damage your computer?

These are some ways in which spam can damage your computer:

1.       It costs us money

2.       Wasted productivity

3.       It wastes your time!

4.       It disconnects you

5.       It’s annoying and offensive

PHISHING

What is phishing?

Phishing is the act of attempting to acquire information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and sometimes indirectly, money). The activity of defrauding an online account holder of financial information by posing as a legitimate company.

A Story of Phishing

Hackers have grabbed thousands of Tumblr user’s logins in a massive phishing attack. The typically simple but effective assault on the micro blogging site presented users with a screen asking them to “Revalidate their credentials” in order to view adult content. Compromised accounts were used to spread the scam.

How to protect yourself from Phishing:

1.       Guard against spam email

2.       Communicate personal information only on secure sites such as Facebook

3.       Protect your computer with firewalls, spam filters and virus software.
